ORTHODONTICS

Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that specializes in diagnosing, preventing and treating irregular teeth and inharmonious jaw relationship. Orthodontic treatment serves all age groups but the planning and duration of the treatment may vary depending on the age of the patient.

Metal brackets: The basic treatment option in cases requiring orthodontic therapy. Metal brackets, arch wires and elastics attached to the teeth help move the teeth to the desired position with a view to optimizing teeth arrangement..

Porcelain brackets: Porcelain brackets might be used instead of metal brackets as a more aesthetic alternative for social status and career considerations, in cases where orthodontic therapy is required.

Lingual orthodontics: A type of orthodontic therapy in which metal brackets are attached to the interior face of the teeth (facing the tongue). It provides improved aesthetics.

Transparent plaques (Clear aligners): An orthodontic therapy method aiming at restoring irregularities in teeth alignment to an optimum level by custom fitted transparent plaques without using metal or porcelain brackets. This treatment cannot be used in every case and thus requires an accurate provisional diagnosis.

Appliance: A type of mechanism used in orthodontic therapy, with fixed or removable (used by the patient in coordination with the dentist) versions. It is often used in treating skeletal and dental orthodontic anomalies.
